AMS v RACC (Power Cup)

A 5 wicket win for the Guns in this curtain raiser for the 2011 Power Cup, as 4 new players made their RACC debut. AMS won the toss and elected to bat in an innings marred by 4 rain stoppages; it took over 5 hours to get through the first 50 overs. The rain and bowling skills of Burwell, Cotterill, Govender and Green certainly had an effect on AMS and innings ended at 221-7 with Hownslow top scoring on 68.

First innings rain saw the umpires set the second innings target at 129 to win in 29 overs. Gnr Ross, in his first match for the Royal Regiment, opened the batting with Govender and top scored with 35; a good start for him with some fine stoke-play. Govender managed 33 but wickets fell, cheaply, through a combination of "why did he do that" shots and errors. With 5 wickets down, it was Oli Burwell who cut the ball to the boundary for the winning runs.
